There is an otherworldly place out there. It’s called White Sands. It’s the largest gypsum dune field in the world. Picture 275 miles of pure white “sand” rippling like ocean waves extending endlessly on the horizon in every direction. It feels impossible. Extraterrestrial. And the second I stepped a bare foot on the sand in the fall of 2021, it felt deeply spiritual. Like I had come home.
The first time I visited I went alone. I hiked out about a mile over the dunes to a place where I could see no one and no one could see me. Then I set up my camera, took all of my clothes off and just ran into the distance.
I sensed that this might be the only opportunity I would ever have to do this. To be completely free, naked, and connected to nature on a primal level. To smile and feel the sun on my bare skin in a wild place, completely alone. Something deep within me needed that.
As I ran on the dunes into the distance that day, part of me was leaving behind a smaller self and connecting with a vast, free, and limitless “self.” Every second my skin was exposed to the sun, sage, and sand, I felt more and more free. No one saw me. But I saw me. And I captured the moment as evidence of my innate freedom.
To me, this is what it means to be an artist. It’s opening myself to connection with the creative force in all things. Trusting it. Listening to it. Letting it guide me into the unknown. This mixed media series embodies the feminine beauty, safety, and spiritual freedom that I feel in wild natural places.
They are photographs printed on velvet and then hand embroidered using holographic thread. When the light hits the thread, it reflects like hundreds of tiny, rainbow lights shining across the sand. A reflection of our vast, free, and limitless true selves.
Dear Friends & Collectors,
Over the last few months, I’ve been making a series of mixed media pieces that embody the feminine beauty, power, and spiritual freedom of White Sands National Park.

This series centers on photographs I made at White Sands, printed on velvet and then hand embroidered using gold thread. When the light hits the thread, it reflects like hundreds of tiny, rainbow lights shining across the sand.
I’m excited to share the first pieces in this series with you. You can also see more images of each piece on my website www.nicolecorbett.studio.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
