Near my home on Long Island, the whales have returned. They arrive in the summer with their calves, breaching, slapping their fins down, jumping out of the water close to the shore. They play in the deeper water while dolphins swim close to shore. The ocean pulls me in and its most magnificent creatures, whales, sing their meditative songs underwater, reminding me of where I came from.
